Have You Ever Regretted Becoming A Freelancer?
There’s no freelancer who doesn’t regret it at least once a day. And, there’s no freelancer who doesn’t change his mind the same day.
Freelancers are bouncing back and forth between these two extremes: regret and excitement.
How can I be so sure? Well, before I decided to join a new freelance platform goLance, I used to work on all websites available. I've been down this road myself. Needless to say that I've met so many fellow freelancers who feel exactly the same way.
Freelancing isn’t all black and white. The truth is always somewhere in the middle.
One day, you are regretting it from the bottom of your heart, the next day you love it and you believe that you will be a freelancer for the rest of your days. This is how it works.
If you're asking yourself this question then this means you are probably caught in one of those moments when you had some tough time with your clients or you are stuck with a mission-impossible-project. But, this can quickly change. I wouldn’t be surprised if you ask a completely different question a few days from now: Do you absolutely enjoy being a freelancer?
The freelance weather quickly changes. There a lot of sunny and rainy days waiting for you.
So, what can you do about it?
There are no rules. There are no guarantees. There’s absolutely nothing you can do about it. So, relax and enjoy your freelance ride as long as it lasts because it’s going to last forever. Or, as long as you want.
Have you seen the movie "Troy?" Eric Bana as Hector nails it when he says: "Sometimes the gods bless you in the morning and curse you in the afternoon." That one pretty much sums it up how it feels to live and work as a freelancer.
You just can't make up your mind as a freelancer. So, don't even try. My wife has given up on me a long time ago. My mood swings have become something she doesn't even pay attention to. One moment I'm cursing the moment I've decided to become a freelancer. The very next moment I'm having my victory dance and I can't stop talking how freelancing is the best thing that has ever happened to me. My wife always has that look on her face: here we go again. Just for the record, I'm not paying attention to you.
So, this question will never have a "stable" answer.
C’est la freelance vie, mon freelance ami!
